Baxter Poland
It operates in a sensitive field where innovative life-saving and life-sustaining solutions meet the daily practice of doctors, nurses and pharmacists. The company’s mission is to offer patients increasingly better medical technologies and to help them gain the widest possible access to modern treatment.
Baxter - challenges
The company is keen to create an integrated medical data monitoring and management system, based on modern intelligent medical devices such as hospital beds with built-in sensors and wristbands that monitor patients’ basic vital signs. Data extracted from these devices will feed into the hospital’s information systems (HIS and CIS), enabling advanced analysis and decision-making support.
Key functionalities of the system
1. Real-time monitoring and data collection:
- Use of smart medical devices such as wristbands and sensor beds to continuously measure basic vital signs (e.g. heart rate, blood pressure, saturation, temperature).
- Real-time data collection and transmission to a central HIS/CIS system.
2. Data analysis and early warning system:
- Creation of benchmark health trends for each patient based on the collected data.
- Development of algorithms for Early Warning Scores, signalling deterioration in a patient’s condition.
3. Data integration:
- Building a data collector that integrates information from different devices and systems, such as HIS, CIS, and patient-worn devices.
- Creation of data transfer standards in line with medical interoperability guidelines (e.g. HL7, FHIR).
4. Communication with medical staff:
- Building a dashboard for medical staff, presenting key patient health data in real time.
- Provide a notification system for critical changes in patient status.
5. Supporting early response teams:
- Integration of the system with procedures and tools used by early response teams.
- Automatic transmission of key information and alerts regarding patients in a life-threatening condition.
